Alerts and Overlays

Overlays are pages you add to your streaming software as a Browser Source: your alerts, chat, goals, leaderboard and more, drawn on top of your stream.

Plans: the Song Requests overlay is free. The other overlays and alerts with your own GIFs and sounds are part of Pro.

Step 1: Create the Overlay

  1. Go to Dashboard → Overlays
  2. Create the overlay you want. The most useful first one is the Alert Box, which shows follow, sub, gift, raid and tip alerts (and plays entrances, soundboard sounds and !replay clips)
  3. Press Copy URL
Overlay Shows
Alert Box Alerts, entrances, soundboard sounds, !replay
Chat Your live chat on screen
Goals Follower, sub or tip goal bar
Leaderboard Top viewers by points or watch time
Hype Meter A bar that fills as chat and events heat up
Now Playing The current song from Spotify or the Discord music bot
Prediction The current !prediction round
Song Requests The !sr queue (free)

Step 2: Add It to OBS or Meld Studio

OBS:

  1. In your scene, Sources → + → Browser
  2. Paste the URL
  3. Set Width 1920 and Height 1080
  4. Press OK

Meld Studio: add a Browser layer to your scene and paste the same URL.

Overlays have transparent backgrounds, so only the alert or widget shows. Add the same URL to every scene where you want it.

Step 3: Make Your Alerts Look Like Yours

Go to Dashboard → Alerts to edit each alert:

  • the message and headline, with variables such as {user} and {amount}
  • your own GIF or image and sound (Pro), or a built-in sound
  • layout, colours, font and animation
  • how long it stays on screen

Press Test on an alert to send it to your Alert Box. If the test doesn't show, check the Alert Box is in your current scene in OBS or Meld, and that the alert is switched on.

No alerts yet? The Hype starter pack under Automations sets up follow, sub, tip and raid alerts with sounds in one click.

Tips

  • Nothing shows in OBS? Right-click the source → Refresh. If you just upgraded to Pro, refresh once so the overlay picks it up.
  • Sound but no picture, or the other way round? Check the alert has both an image and a sound set, and that the browser source isn't muted in OBS's audio mixer.
  • Keep one Alert Box per scene; two copies of the same URL in one scene show every alert twice.
