Discord Level-up Alerts

Level-up Alerts post a celebration in your Discord when a member reaches a new level — their avatar, a mention, and a message like "@surfer just reached Big Wave Rider!"

How it works, so it's not a surprise later: SheekBot doesn't count XP or track levels itself. It watches for members gaining a role you've marked as a level role, and announces it. That role can come from a leveling bot (CarlBot, MEE6, Arcane, …) that rewards levels with roles, or from a mod giving it by hand. If nothing ever gives out those roles, there's nothing to announce.

Prerequisites

  • Discord is connected under Dashboard → Integrations, and SheekBot has been added to your server
  • You have the Manage Server permission in Discord (needed for the /levelup commands)
  • Level roles exist and something hands them out — see Step 1

Level-up Alerts are available on every plan.

Step 1: Set Up Level Roles

Skip this if your leveling bot already gives out level roles.

  1. In Server Settings → Roles, create one role per milestone, e.g. Level 5, Level 10, Level 25 — or give them names that fit your community (Grom, Shredder, Big Wave Rider)
  2. In your leveling bot, add role rewards for those levels. In CarlBot, that's the Levels section of its dashboard: give each role at its level. Check your leveling bot's own docs for where role rewards live.

Tip: if your leveling bot can also post level-up messages, turn those off so members don't get announced twice.

Step 2: Turn On Alerts

Option A: From the Dashboard

  1. Go to Dashboard → Integrations → Discord → Level-up Alerts
  2. Turn on Level-up Alerts
  3. Pick the Channel to celebrate in
  4. Customize the Embed title and Message if you like — {user} becomes a mention of the member, {role} becomes the role's label. For example: "{user} just caught a {role} wave! 🌊"
  5. Pick an Embed color and check the preview
  6. Add each level role to watch (with an optional label — the label is what {role} shows)
  7. Click Save, then Send test

Option B: With Slash Commands

/levelup channel channel: #level-ups
/levelup role add role: @Big Wave Rider
/levelup role add role: @Shredder label: Shredder 🏄
/levelup test

Other commands: /levelup role remove, /levelup status (shows what's set up) and /levelup disable (turns alerts off without losing your settings). The title and message can be customized from the dashboard.

Step 3: Check It

/levelup test (or Send test in the dashboard) posts a sample alert so you can see how it looks. To see a real one, give a member one of your level roles by hand — the alert appears within a few seconds. Take the role back afterwards if it was just a test.

Troubleshooting

  • The test works but real level-ups never post — make sure your leveling bot is actually giving out the roles you added (check a member who levelled up recently). Alerts only fire for roles on your watch list.
  • A member got two alerts at once — they gained two watched roles at the same moment (some leveling bots give every missed role at once). Each watched role gets its own alert.
  • Nothing posts at all, even the test — the channel blocks SheekBot. In that channel's settings → Permissions, allow SheekBot to View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links.
  • Alerts stopped after the leveling bot was reconfigured — if it now uses different roles, add the new ones with /levelup role add.
  • I manage more than one server — each SheekBot account manages one Discord server at a time.
