Getting started

Getting Started

This gets SheekBot running in your chat in about five minutes, then shows where to go next. SheekBot works on Twitch, Kick and YouTube, plus Discord for your community. You can connect one platform or all of them.

Step 1: Create Your Account

  1. Go to sheekbot.dialdesigns.org/register
  2. Enter your name, email and a password
  3. Log in with the same email and password

The whole chat bot is free: commands, timers, points, giveaways, trivia, starter packs, automations and the Discord tools. Pro ($9/month) adds the OBS overlays, alerts with your own GIFs and sounds, clips and premium AI voices. See Pricing for the full list.

Step 2: Connect Your Channel

  1. In the dashboard, open Integrations
  2. Press Connect on Twitch, Kick or YouTube
  3. Approve SheekBot on the platform's page

You come straight back to a short setup. The first time you connect a platform, SheekBot also adds a few starter commands (!hype, !gg, !socials, !discord) and sends you a welcome email.

Streaming on more than one platform? Connect each one. They share the same commands and settings; points are kept separately for each platform.

Step 3: Check It Answers

Type !hype in your chat. SheekBot replies within a second or two.

  • On Twitch the reply comes from your own account, so it shows under your channel name. That's how Twitch lets bots like this post.
  • On Kick and YouTube the reply comes from SheekBot.

No reply? Open Integrations and check the platform says Connected. If it does and the bot still doesn't answer, use the Feedback button (bottom right of every dashboard page) and tell us.

Step 4: Install a Starter Pack

A starter pack sets up a working bot in one click. You can edit or switch off anything afterwards, and installing a pack never overwrites what you've already made.

  1. Go to Automations
  2. Pick a pack:
    • Starter: thank-you messages for follows, subs and raids, a socials timer, and basic commands
    • Hype: on-screen alerts with sounds for follows, subs, tips and raids, plus spoken shoutouts (the on-screen alerts need Pro)
  3. Press Install

Timers only post while you're live, so your chat stays quiet when you're offline.

Step 5: Edit Your Commands

Open Commands and edit !socials and !discord to add your own links. Commands can use variables that fill in by themselves:

Variable Becomes
{user} the viewer who typed the command
{channel} your channel name
{uptime} how long you've been live
{followers}, {viewers} your follower and viewer counts
{title}, {game} your stream title and category
{count} how many times the command has been used
{touser} the name typed after the command (!hug @alice), or the viewer
{1}, {2}… / {query} one word / everything typed after the command
{random} / {random:1-6} a number from 1 to 100 / in your range
{pick:yes|no|maybe} one of your options at random

For example, {user} hugs {touser}! turns !hug @alice into "@bob hugs @alice!", and 🎱 {pick:Yes|No|Ask again later} makes an 8-ball.

Each command has a user cooldown (per viewer) and a global cooldown (whole chat), in seconds. Moderators skip both.

SheekBot also has built-in commands you don't need to create. Type !commands in chat for the list. A few favourites:

  • !uptime, !lurk, !so <name> (mods)
  • !points, !toppoints, !watchtime, !topwatch, !streak
  • !clip (anyone can make a clip)
  • !sound <name> and !sounds (once you've set up the Soundboard)
  • !tts <message> (once you've set up Chat Text-to-Speech)

Step 6: Add Alerts and Overlays to OBS or Meld (Pro)

Overlays are web pages you add to your streaming software as a Browser Source.

  1. Go to Overlays and create the one you want (Alert Box for follow, sub and raid alerts)
  2. Press Copy URL
  3. In OBS: Sources → + → Browser, paste the URL, set the size to 1920 × 1080. In Meld Studio, add a Browser layer with the same URL.

Customise how each alert looks and sounds under Alerts.

The Song Requests overlay is free; the others are part of Pro.

Step 7: Set Up Discord (Optional)

  1. In Integrations, connect Discord and add SheekBot to your server
  2. Open the Discord card's tabs to set up:
    • Go-Live: a post when you start streaming
    • Stream Recap: a summary after each stream
    • Welcome Alerts, Role Menus and Level-up Alerts

You can add SheekBot to more than one server. Each server has its own settings: pick the server at the top of the Discord card, and go-live posts and recaps go to every server you've switched them on in. See Discord Role Menus, Discord Level-up Alerts and Discord Music for details.

Where Next

  • Viewer Entrances: give your regulars an entrance
  • Soundboard: let chat play sounds
  • Points in the dashboard: choose how viewers earn points
  • Control Deck: switch scenes and mute your mic from your phone (keep SheekBot's OBS or Meld page open on your streaming PC)
